More than a month has passed since the earthquake that devastated Haiti, but many members of the local Haitian community are still coming to terms with the impact of the disaster, Joseph Bernadel said tonight before an interfaith service to honor the Haitian earthquake victims.
Bernadel, director of the Toussaint L'Ouverture High School in Boynton Beach, and religious leaders wanted to bring together members of the Haitian community, and to honor those who perished.
"People have finally started to see the magnitude of this disaster, both in terms of human cost and in infrastructure," Bernadel said. "A lot of the difficulties that people are dealing with ... are coming out in multitudes. That's why a service like this is for giving the people one more opportunity to just simply get together with their own feelings and to find comfort in the togetherness of the community."
