Description The Sufi Order of Boston is a branch of the Sufi Order International which was founded by Hazrat Inayat Khan in 1910. It offers a universal approach to religious understanding and guided training in spiritual practice and growth. Describing Sufism, Hazrat Inayat Khan said, "Sufism is the religion of the heart, the religion in which the thing of primary importance is to seek God in the heart of human kind." The Sufi Order International is currently headed by Pir Zia Inayat Khan, the grandson of Hazrat Inayat Khan and the son of Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan who headed the Order until his recent passing. Part of the mission of the Sufi Order is "to serve God and humanity by helping to relieve suffering, by promoting understanding and acceptance among adherents of various faiths, and by encouraging the unfoldment of universal loving kinship." Activities and Schedule The Sufi Order community in the Boston area, founded in the early 1970s, is small but active in Boston and several surrounding towns. Offerings include Universal Worship Services, classes on Sufi philosophy, healing, and meditation, retreats, and Dances of Universal Peace. People of all faiths are welcome to these offerings. The Sufi Order is not concerned with "conversion", and its members continue to practice their own religions after joining.
