Amid growing tension, Muslim convention aims to dispel 'destructive myths' about Islam | The State

Amid a presidential campaign season that has seen increased anti-Muslim rhetoric, and in the wake of Islamic State-inspired attacks in California and abroad, a national Muslim-American organization is bringing its annual convention to Baltimore this weekend. It expects to draw tens of thousands for programs aimed at "dispelling destructive myths about the Islamic faith and about Muslim Americans."

( JTA ) — London’s newly-elected mayor, Sadiq Khan, endorsed a pledge co-signed by dozens of American and European mayors to fight anti-Semitism.Khan, a Muslim Labour politician who won the May 5 mayoral election by a broad majority, recently informed the Board of Deputies of British Jews of his decision to join the Mayors United Against Antisemitism initiative, the Board said in a statement published Thursday.

Religious Freedom Faces 'Serious And Sustained Assault' Around The World : NPR

At a time when "religious liberty" has become associated in the U.S. with the right to oppose LGBT protections and same-sex marriage, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom reports on the "serious and sustained assault" on religious people and practices abroad. The organization cites attacks on Muslims in the Central African Republic and Burma to the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe and the repression of all religious activity in North Korea.
