Description

The Northern Light Zen Center was started in 2001 by students of Korean Zen Master Seung Sahn, under the aegis of the Kwan Um Zen School. Presently, the guiding teacher is Chong Hae Sunim JDPN, abbot of the Providence Zen Center in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
Prior to joining the Kwan Um School, Chong Hae Sunim trained in the Japanese and Vietnamese Zen traditions. He was ordained a monk in 1996 and received inka from Zen Master Seung Sahn on April 7, 2001.
Membership in the Northern Light Zen Center ranges from five to ten people. The community practices in a meditation room in the residence of one of the members.

Activities and Schedule

Besides regular meditation, the community offers public talks and Zen retreats with several Masters of the Kwan Um School of Zen. Weekly meditations occur on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. New students are welcome to come at 6:30 p.m.
Additionally, Northern Light Zen Center has practice on the fourth Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Formal day-long retreats with the community’s Guiding Teacher, Chong Hae Sunim, are held two to four times a year.
The Zen Center is open for everyone.
