Songs and prayers are offered at the only Buddhist Temple in Virginia Beach.

"I've received a lot of peace from this," Samantha Nezgoda said as she stood in the worship area. It's inside a home on West Neck Road near Pungo. The community is zoned agricultural with rural residences.

Thanh Cong Doan bought the property and moved in about a year and a half ago. He is out of town right now, but another monk, Thanh Chuc agreed to speak with 10 On Your Side. Thanh Chuc moved here five months ago. Through one of our producers, he explained why he loves his new home.

His translated comment: "He says it's a very peaceful location and when you're practicing and meditating and praying, you need a peaceful location so he loves it here in Virginia Beach."

Any regular religious meeting in a home in a residential area of the city has to have a conditional use permit - for the meeting to be legal.
