GILFORD - Trying something new for breakfast took on a more significant meaning at First United Methodist Church Saturday morning.

About 100 women of various faiths gathered at the church, located on Gilford Avenue, to share prayers, songs, stories and, yes, breakfast.

Lois Plimpton, a member of the Congregational Church in Laconia, said she and a small group of local women got the idea to host a "women's interfaith breakfast" after attending a religious conference in Vermont in 2001.

"We decided we wanted to try it locally and celebrate women from all faiths," Plimpton said.

After the success of the first breakfast, held at the Congregational Church, other breakfasts were planned a few times a year, each one at a different house of worship.
