On June 30, 2005 The Herald reported, "Many town residents were talking Wednesday about their support for the Town Council in its efforts to name Jesus Christ in meeting prayers. At church, around town, in restaurants and in gas stations, people were talking about the case that pitted resident Darla Wynne against the council, which had, before the suit, invoked Jesus' name in pre-meeting prayers. The U.S. Supreme Court declined this week to hear a town appeal, forcing the town to abandon the practice of prayer in the name of a specific deity. Wynne practices Wicca, an earth-based religion that incorporates pre-Christian beliefs into the faith... Wynne has been ostracized by the town for her religious practice, she said. Nothing specific has happened since the court's announcement earlier this week, but many have treated her 'even more differently after the news hit the street,' she said. 'It's been an eerie silence,' Wynne said Wednesday."
