On March 5, 2000, The Boston Globe published an article on a student club at Bridgewater State College called WICCA, Witches Interactive College Community Association. It is one of the few collegiate student organizations in the country dedicated to Witches. The WICCA office only knows of other active clubs at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island and one that operates at Florida State University. Raven, a Bridgewater State student who started WICCA, tells of the few problems he has had in starting the organization: "I didn't expect it to be this easy...I expected some conflict; there's nothing...I was prepared to fight with the faculty. I was prepared to fight with students, but I didn't have to do that." WICCA provides an educational forum where students can explore their religious questions and develop friendships. The group last year sold candy for the Feed the Children charity and next semester it plans to sponsor a music night involving diverse cultural expressions and a Tarot-reading fundraiser for a children's charity.
