Amid controversy about the constitutionality of the National Day of Prayer, members of Marin congregations gathered in record numbers Thursday to find common ground and inspiration at an interfaith prayer breakfast.
"I think people are seeking something in these tough times ... they are looking for something with a message and meaning," said the Rev. Carol Hovis, a San Rafael Presbyterian minister and executive director of the Marin Interfaith Council.
The 11th annual prayer breakfast - which featured food, prayer, meditation, music and socialization - was held at Congregation Rodef Sholom in San Rafael and sponsored by the Marin Interfaith Council, a San Rafael-based organization founded in 1982 to promote religious diversity, sharing of faith traditions and community unity.
