On September 28, 2002 The Virginian-Pilot reported that "because the [Nexus] team recognizes that people are at different places in their faith walks and in their desire to learn about other faiths, we've always felt Nexus must grow to provide programs for these different levels. There are others, however - myself included - who want 'something more.' We want a life-changing encounter with people of other faiths, a real nitty gritty interfaith dialogue. We want the kind of interfaith dialogue that doesn't want or need an audience. We want more one-on-one time with people of other faiths to talk about our faiths. We want true dialogue - arguments and all! To meet these desires, the design team has proposed that we begin small-group dialogues. Under the Nexus umbrella, we would invite the public to gather into numerous small groups. I propose calling these groups Nexus Covenant Dialogues, or Nexus CDs."
