On July 7, 2003 The Virginian-Pilot reported that "local Jews and Christians... have set aside differences to work together for a single cause: supporting Israel... Their ad hoc organization, Jews and Christians for Israel, will hold a rally at the Chesapeake Conference Center on Sunday to promote support for that country, where suicide bombings have killed hundreds in the past 33 months. Strengthening Israel's sagging economy by encouraging people to visit Israel and buy its products is also a goal... 'We do not agree theologically, and even socially on some issues, but we do have common ground,' said [Bob] Collins, pastor at the World Outreach Worship Center in Newport News. 'We're all for one goal, and that's Israel...' 'Israel is at risk, and the evangelical Christians have emerged as the faith guardians and supporters of the state of Israel,' said [Israel] Zoberman, who leads Congregation Beth Chaverim in Virginia Beach."
