On July 15, 2003 the Times Community Newspapers reported that "already active in Herndon- and Sterling-area [VA] community groups, Afeefa Syeed sees a role in local government as 'a natural progression' of her grassroots activism... Syeed, 33, has worked with Reston Interfaith, Friends of Runnymede Park, Herndon's diversity task force and assorted social service organizations--collecting donations for a homeless shelter and helping an area food bank... Now she is running as a Democratic candidate for the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors to fill the seat in the newly created Potomac District... Syeed, who is Muslim, said her religion had no impact on her decision to run for the board. Her goal is to negotiate ways to deal with Loudoun's fast growth, taking into account land use, maintaining affordable housing and the impact of growth on schools and transportation."
