On November 14, 2004 The Virginian-Pilot reported, "emboldened by the news that 22 percent of presidential voters put 'moral values' atop their election agenda, the Rev. Jerry Falwell announced last week that he’s returning to action. Having prematurely retired his 20th-century political action group, the Moral Majority, the Lynchburg preacher trotted out a revamped version for the 21st... Falwell’s Faith and Values Coalition promises a three-pronged agenda: making sure Supreme Court and lower-court nominees oppose abortion; passing a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage; and the election of another 'George Bush-type' conservative in 2008... Perhaps the Faith and Values Coalition would want to expand its list to capture the piece of Jesus’ message summed up in Luke 12:48: 'From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required.' The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, which includes various Christian denominations, Jews and Muslims, does a good job of identifying public policy issues that unite people of faith under that rubric. Falwell ought to take a look."
