On September 18, 2001, The Washington Post reported on one of the victims of the terror attacks: "A Muslim Family in N.Y. Fears For a Son Who Loved America; 23-Year-Old Among Hundreds of That Faith Missing in Attack." The article noted that Sal, or Mohammad Salman Hamdani, is among some 700 Muslims who are thought to be missing. "But while the Hamdanis pound the streets looking for their son, they are constantly aware of the widespread assumption that Muslims were responsible for the attack. They say they fear that American Muslim casualties are being ignored while a minority of people are responding to anti-Islamic sentiment by taking the law into their own hands."
