On March 17, 2004 The Times of India reported, "The VHP would support only those political parties which respected the sentiments of Hindus and agreed to their main demands, including construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya, a common civil code and a law to ban religious conversions, VHP leader Dr Pravin Togadia said on Wednesday. One of the VHP's main demands, he said, was eradication of terrorism posed by Jihadi Islamic fundamnetalist forces. 'We will also support parties which promise to eradicate this.' Asked for his comments on the 'Bharat Uday Yatra' of deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, he said everybody was free to launch 'rath shows or road shows' in India -- an obvious reference to Congress President Sonia Gandhi's road shows."
