On November 25, 2003 The Middletown Press reported that recent vandalism of the Sri Satyanarayana Hindu Temple in Middleton appears to be a teenage prank rather than a hate crime. Vandals had sprayed two words over the temple's entire sign, "Ghandi" and a word that could be one of two expletives. Officials at the temple noted that the vandalism was out of character with the town of Middletown, where locals regularly visit the temple to learn more about Hinduism.
