On October 22, 2001, The Fresno Bee reported that "members of the Sikh Temple in San Joaquin donated $5,000 on Sunday to the New York City disaster relief fund, bringing the total to $57,000 from four fund-raisers held at temples in the Valley. The latest donation to the American Red Cross by the San Joaquin temple was part of the Sikh community's efforts to help victims from the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. 'We are all citizens of the United States,' said Mohinder Singh Grewal, a San Joaquin temple member. 'When we heard about what happened ... everyone was eager to donate money.'"
