On June 19, 2003 Reuters reported that "a Florida doctor was sentenced to 12-1/2 years in federal prison on Thursday for plotting to blow up an Islamic center in retaliation for the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States... Robert Goldstein, a podiatrist, apologized to the Islamic community before he was handed the maximum sentence on charges of conspiracy to violate civil rights, attempting to damage religious property, and possession of unregistered firearms... U.S. District Judge James Moody could have sentenced Goldstein to as little as 10 years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines, but said the seriousness of the offense justified the maximum allowable sentence."
