On April 23, 2003 the Muslim Public Affairs Council reported that "on Saturday April 19th, UCLA Medical Center staff found what appears to be pig blood poured into a drawer containing Muslim prayer rugs. The bloodied drawer was found in a chapel that is used by various religious groups in what appears to be an obvious hate crime... A container labeled 'pig's blood' was left in the drawer, which was labeled 'Muslim Prayer Rugs.' The compass, which Muslims use to determine the direction of prayer, was also missing... The UCLA Medical Center filed a report with the University police who are investigating the incident as a hate crime."
