On June 23, 2005 the El Paso Times reported, "A 58-year-old Lower Valley man was sentenced Wednesday to more than 14 years in prison in the attempted firebombing in September of the Islamic Center of El Paso, federal officials said. Antonio Flores was convicted of tossing a Molotov cocktail into the center's back yard where children were playing and placing a second bomb on a gas meter on Sept. 17 at the former center near Downtown El Paso. Both bombs fizzled. Flores pleaded guilty March 22 in federal court to charges of attempting to damage religious property and using an explosive device in a felony... Flores told investigators he disliked Muslims and was angry after watching a television show about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Flores said he wanted to scare Muslims into leaving El Paso. He drank two quart bottles of Busch beer and turned them into Molotov cocktails. He was arrested by police in the neighborhood minutes after the attack."
