On May 23, 2003 the Lowell Sun reported that "Lowell [MA] police are giving Southeast Asian youths in trouble with the law or having problems at home an opportunity to turn their lives around through counseling... Beginning this summer, police are enlisting the help of Buddhist monks from a local temple to counsel troubled youths as a means of curbing street violence... Capt. Robert DeMoura got the go-ahead for the project Wednesday from acting-Superintendent Dennis Cormier. The planning process is scheduled to start Sunday."
