On July 26, 2003 Dallas News reported that "in the aftermath of the Sept.11 terrorist attacks, concerns about the Muslim camp have rippled far beyond the muddy Coralville Reservoir, whose shoreline forms the site's southern and eastern boundaries... Some Iowans opposed to the camp cite environmental concerns. Others, however, say they fear that the camp will be used to train terrorists -- an assertion that American Muslim leaders dismiss as ludicrous and religiously bigoted... 'If we were talking about a Baptist youth camp, we wouldn't even be having this discussion,' said Ibrahim Hooper, director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an advocacy group based in Washington... 'We no longer have Communists to go after. Now it's the Muslim bogeyman.'"
