Update: Florida Judge Sentences Franklin for Hate Crimes

On May 19, 2003 the Muslim Public Affairs Council issued a press release stating that "the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, Gregory R. Miller, and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, Ralph F. Boyd, Jr., announced today that 42-year old Charles D. Franklin of Tallahassee was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay $63,668.75 in restitution, for intentionally damaging the Islamic Center Mosque in Tallahassee... 'As this successful prosecution makes clear, acts of violence and vigilantism targeted at individuals because of their race, religion, or national origin will not be permitted in the United States - they will be aggressively investigated, swiftly prosecuted and firmly punished,' said Ralph F. Boyd, Jr. 'The Department of Justice is committed to fighting hate and intolerance.'"
