On September 21, 2002 The Beacon Journal reported that "In the early morning hours, possibly between 4 and 6 a.m., someone rammed the main entrance... to the Kent Mosque... with a piece of wood, leaving a sizable hole in the glass door. It was the second time in less than a week that an [Kent, OH] area mosque has been the target of vandalism. Kent police said a preliminary investigation indicates Friday's incident was not a hate crime. Four businesses, all on Main Street within three blocks of the mosque, reported incidents of property damage overnight. Two businesses reported windows broken. A third reported a broken car window in its parking lot. The fourth, the Masonic Temple, reported forced entry and items missing."
