On August 13, 2003 Silicon India reported that "a Hindu citizens' centre in New York that caters to elderly people of South Asian descent is becoming increasingly popular for its services like vegetarian food and dance, yoga and English classes... The United Hindu Cultural Council Senior Centre, the only one of its kind in Queens, New York, caters particularly to the needs of people of Indian origin... The centre celebrated its fifth anniversary last week. It began with a group of seven people and today has a membership of around 500.
