On December 28, 2004 the Associated Press reported, "a man who pleaded guilty to threatening to destroy the El Paso Islamic Center has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. In addition, U-S District Judge Frank Montalvo ordered 30-year-old Jared Bjarnason to complete 150 hours of community service. U-S Attorney Johnny Sutton said 'There are no idle threats in the post 9-11 world.'"
