On September 3, 2005 the Tucson Citizen reported, "Disparate faiths are pitching in water, diapers, blankets and cash to help victims of Hurricane Katrina as they struggle to subsist five days after the storm crashed into their lives. New Life Ministries, for instance, will stock a 53-foot trailer full of supplies and send it to New Orleans... New Life Ministries is a national evangelical organization that has set up 12 distribution centers in the Gulf Coast area as donations come in from around the country. The Islamic Center of Tucson is joining forces with the Muslim American Society of Arizona to offer help to those afflicted by the storm. The mosque is piggy backing on efforts of mosques in the Phoenix area, said Muhammad As'ad, director of the Islamic Center of Tucson... The Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona is taking up collections at its offices... Also, the 74 parishes in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson will take up financial collections at Masses this week to provide for relief in Katrina's wake."
