Tibetan Monks to Visit Virginia

On October 19, 2002 Roanoke Times & World News reported that "seven Tibetan monks will visit the Virginia Tech campus Wednesday through Oct. 28. Visiting from the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in India, the monks are on their first American tour to raise funds for their monastery and to promote cultural diversity. During their visit, the monks will construct a sand mandala painting on the second floor of Squires Student Center Oct. 24-Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a dismantling ceremony Oct. 27 at 1:30 p.m. The monks will also lead discussions on Buddhism, Tibet and the Panchen Lama, the second most important spiritual leader in Tibet, and perform a traditional cham - a performance of monastic music and dances."
