On November 29, 2001 the Portsmouth Herald reported that "Tibetan Buddhist Lama Norlha Rinpoche, the abbot of Kagyu Thubten Chöling Monastery in New York... imparted his message to more than 60 people during a public talk on 'Transforming Fear and Anger into Compassion' held recently in the Portsmouth Unitarian Church. After the Sept. 11 tragedy, Lama Norlha issued a message to his practitioners, advocating meditation, compassion and prayers to the Three Jewels — the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha — that this kind of tragedy will never happen again." The article also reported on several of the Buddhist communities in New Hampshire including the Kagyu Samten Chöling (KSC) study group in Portsmouth, the Aryaloka Buddhist Center in Newmarket, and the Barrington Zen group.
