CANTON TOWNSHIP -- Today, a passersby might confuse the cream-colored Hindu Temple for an office building. A $5 million plan to create a mega temple next to an upscale subdivision would erase all doubt. Mirroring a surge in both Asian-Indians and temples in Metro Detroit, the 20-year-old congregation wants to build a 35,000-square-foot, twin-domed temple with 25-foot-high walls, splashed with reds and browns. The prospect doesn't thrill neighbors in $300,000 homes with big picture windows.
