The Hong Kong Taoist Association has kicked off a yearlong publicity campaign which will climax next November with a massive group prayer ritual, historically used by state leaders to wish for peace and harmony.

The festival will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's handover as well as the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Hong Kong Taoist Association.

The mass ritual will take place between November 13 and 24 next year and will pray for world peace, national solidarity and social harmony. An international conference on Taoist philosophy will also be held next year between November 21 and 25.

To reflect the history of the ritual, Lo Tian Da Jiao, which will last 12 days, government officials from Hong Kong, Macau and the mainland have been invited to attend what will be the first such event held in Hong Kong.
