Kansas City area Muslims are committed to their faith, perhaps even more deeply than Muslims in other parts of the country.
For example, 62 percent of area Muslims who responded to an informal Star survey this month said they attend prayer at a mosque once a week or more. That compares with 40 percent in a recent national survey.
As Muslims observe their holy month of Ramadan, The Star conducted an online survey to help readers learn more about the religious practices of this community. About 150 Muslims responded to the survey, which was posted at KansasCity.com and sent to an area online Muslim newsletter and to area mosques. The area’s Muslim population is estimated at 8,000, including 5,000 who are 18 or older.
