The first signs of a mela, the Hindi word for festival, at the Hindu Samaj Temple Saturday, Sept. 18, began teasing patrons’ senses in the parking lot.
The aromas of a spicy blend of cumin, saffron and coriander along with the sweeter cardamom almost reached Ramapo Valley Road where an overflow crowd left their cars to attend the temple’s first Indian Heritage Day.
