SENIOR members of a private members’ club are being sued for racial discrimination after banning ALL Sikh people.

Darley Lawn Tennis and Social Club took the drastic action after a fight involving a group of Sikh men in which club members were injured.

The punch-up led to the closure of the 85-year-old social club in 2005 – though its tennis section is still up and running.

The lawsuit, which is being filed by 11 Sikh men, has just been set down for trial at Manchester County Court.

During the three-day hearing the Sikhs, who all have the surname Singh, will claim racial discrimination against four club executives and two members including Neil Moss, Pete Horner, Les Quinn, treasurer Brian Riley, Dave Mulrooney and Alf Borland. It’s understood the Darley – whose management committee includes a Mr Yadi Singh, who was not involved in the punch-up – closed following a severe profits loss in recent years as well as the added financial burden of defending the case.
