On May 15, 2005 The Indian Express reported, "Opposition to the controversial film ‘Jo Bole So Nihal’ by the Sikh community spilt on to the roads here on Sunday as Sikh organisations took out a protest march, the first in Chandigarh since the film enraged the community with its alleged wrong portrayal of Sikhism. The protests took place when a crucial meeting of eight Sikh organisations went on at the Akal Takht in Amritsar to decide a strategy to stop the film’s screening and a day before a scheduled hearing on the issue by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Participated by an equal number of young and middle-aged Sikhs, the protests remained peaceful. The procession started from the Sector 34 gurdwara at 2.25 pm and ended at the Nirman Cinema hall, barely two km away, where the film was being screened. There was high police deployment along the procession’s route and around the cinema hall. The agitators insisted on entering the cinema hall premises to stop the film’s screening, but the police stopped them midway."
