Sikhs Protest Over Landlord Dispute

On January 21, 2005 the Karachi News reported, "Some 20 Sikh families, residents of Adam Khan Goth near Gulshan-e-Maymar, Karachi, on Thursday held a protest demonstration at the Karachi Press Club against atrocities by a local landlord and closure of their place of worship, Gurdawara Guru Nanak. Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the local landlord, Vadera Alam Khan, Sikh men, women and children chanted slogans against disconnecting electricity of their place of worship and threats being given to them for vacating their homes. They demanded of the Sindh Governor, Chief Minister, Home Minister, IGP and other concerned authorities to take stock of the situation as in addition to threats by the local landlord, area police were also pressurizing them to vacate their homes and worship place."
