On September 5, 2004 The Chicago Daily Herald reported, "hundreds of Sikhs marched down the streets of Palatine Saturday, amid floats and much pageantry as they celebrated the 400th anniversary of their faith's holy scripture. The parade kicked off a weekend filled with worship, contemplation and celebration at the Sikh Religious Society, 1280 Winnetka St. in Palatine, as members reflected on their holy book, originally commissioned in 1604. Today's services include a morning of Kirtan, or congregational prayers performed by singers and youth groups, followed by more prayers and worship in the afternoon."
