On May 15, 2005 The Panthic Weekly reported, "The Sikh Community continues to campaign against the French law banning Sikh students in government schools from wearing turbans. The campaign is being spearheaded by United Sikhs, an organization which has offices in Amritsar, London and New York.

In their latest move, Sikhs from European countries are scheduled to gather in front of the European parliament in Strasbourg to remind Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to sign the 'Written Declaration on Religious Rights and Freedoms in France and throughout the European Union'. A large number of community leaders from Britain are expected to be part of this gathering.

In a bid to make the Government realize the sentiment of Sikhs all over the world, a large number of Sikhs protested this law on Paris Streets last year.

Last February, five cross-party MEPs had also tabled a 'Written Declaration on Religious Rights and Freedoms in France and throughout the European Union.

If 50% of the 732-member assembly sign this declaration by May 20, it will enable the European Parliament to have a debate and pass a resolution on this issue."
