On May 3, 2006 icSouth London reported, "A terrified Sikh woman has told how a race attack made her think she would die like murder victim Stephen Lawrence.

Teenagers launched abuse and missiles at the shocked social worker, her daughter and a friend when they visited Oxleas Wood in Eltham.

The woman, who doesn't want to be identified, has vowed never to go to a public park in Southeast London again.

The mum-of-one says she is upset because she claims she was advised by a police officer not to visit the park. She said: 'It was a nice sunny day and I had never been to Oxleas Wood before. We were out on a walk and around 5.40pm we decided to go home when a crowd of around 20 boys and three girls started shouting racist abuse. My daughter started shaking but my friend tried to ignore them.'

The three made their way to their car but were confronted by the rabble minutes later. They hurled sticks, full beer cans and stones at the car causing slight damage to the windscreen.

They escaped unhurt and called police. The victim says police told her no arrests could be made because officers said they were 'outnumbered' by the horde of teenagers."
