The Surrey Sikh temple where Laibar Singh has taken sanctuary received a letter from the Canada Border Services Agency on Friday saying it still intends "to take the necessary steps to enforce this removal order."

The Vancouver Sun obtained a copy of the letter, which is in response to the declaration of sanctuary by the temple executive this week for the paralysed refugee claimant, who has won reprieves from three separate dates for his deportation in recent months.

The latest came Wednesday when about 300 supporters blockaded the gates to the Guru Nanak temple, preventing CBSA agents from removing Singh for an early-morning flight back to his native India.

The CBSA letter to temple president Balwant Singh Gill appears to reject the sanctuary status of the temple.
