On December 21, 2004 CBC News reported, "The author of a play that features rape and murder in a fictional Sikh temple has gone into hiding in England after allegedly receiving death threats.

A friend of Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti told British newspaper the Evening Standard that after receiving a number of threats about her play Behzti, or Dishonour, the young Sikh playwright was advised by police to hide.

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre announced Monday it was cancelling Behzti 10 days early in order to protect its staff and theatre patrons.

An estimated 400 people gathered outside the theatre last Saturday to protest the play, with some violently clashing with police."
