On November 20, 2005 the Associated Press reported, "Members of a northwestern Indiana Sikh congregation have dedicated their new place of worship - a $1.3 million temple with five gold domes reminiscent of the graceful, airy temples in India. During Saturday's dedication under a blue sky, priest Harpal Singh ceremoniously carried the Sikh Holy Book above his head during a procession that started at a farmhouse previously used for services and ended at the new temple's front door. 'We have been waiting for this day for a long time,' said Surgit Singh Grewal, who serves as a temple board trustee... The Sikh Religious Society of Northwest Indiana broke ground in May 1999 for the new temple, but completion was slow because of the cost and the few families who bore that cost, said Gurnam Sidhu, who serves as executive secretary of the temple. Weather delayed the move this year, first from spring, then to summer and now November... For the last decade, an aging farmhouse to the east of the building under construction served as a makeshift place of worship for local Sikh faithful, Sidhu said. The new temple features a prayer hall with a heated floor because worshippers sit on it during services. The prayer room includes doors on all four sides, representing the religion's openness to all who visit."
