On December 4, 2005 Sikh Sangat News reported, "Students of Ramgarhia Girls Senior Secondary School, Millar Ganj, have another feather in their cap. A team of eight girls of the school is well-trained in gatka, the Sikh martial art, and have been applauded at various state level competitions conducted by Punjab School Education Board (PSEB). School Principal Kawaljit Kaur is proud of the girls’ achievement too. She says, 'In 2001, PSEB introduced this event for girls at the state level educational competitions. We prepared our team for it, and our girls have been performing exceedingly well since,' she says with pride. The team is trained in this age-old art daily by Parwinder Kaur, who also trains girls in the art of stitching. Parwinder Kaur too is happy with her team. She says, 'In 2001, the school principal told me to train girls for gatka and I accepted it as a challenge. First I myself learnt this art from two coaches, Avtar Singh and Narender Singh. Then I selected girls from Class IX to Class XII, and trained them for two months. Now, our team can perform better than boys too,' she smiles."
