On December 15, 2001, The Connecticut Post reported "New owner fatally shot at W. Haven gas station." It continued, "Amar Sachdeva, 46, of North Main Street, was working alone behind the counter of his Mobil station on Orange Avenue around 8 p.m. when he was shot in the chest with a handgun, police said. ... Police haven't ruled out any possible motives, including racism or robbery, he said. There were no signs of a struggle and it's unclear if any money was taken ... Sachdeva was a Sikh from India, Vinci said. Sikh men often wear turbans and are sometimes confused with Arabs."
