On August 9, 2004 The Star reported, "The Sikh community [in Petaling Jaya] is organising a peace rally to mark National Day and hopes it will be an event for all Malaysians. 'In true Malaysian tradition, we are inviting everyone, regardless of religion, race or creed to come forward and celebrate this with us,' said Niketan Foundation chairman Amarjeet Singh on the Amanpeace gathering which it was organising to mark both the nation’s 47th birthday and the 400th anniversary of the First Installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The celebration will be held on Aug 21,10 days prior to National Day at Dataran Merdeka from 9am till 10pm, with an open-house hi-tea for the public, carnival fair, bazaar and many other programmes. 'The event will not be a success if only the Sikh community is present,' Amarjeet Singh said. He said aman means peace in both Malay and Punjabi, and along with the adjoining word ‘peace,' the event was to celebrate the peace and harmony in the country that Malaysians had felt for so many years."
