On February 1, 2004 The Associated Press reported, "East is East and West is West. Rudyard Kipling wrote that in his ballad about the divergence of world cultures. Yet University High, where the two have met amicably on the hardwood, defies Kipling's thesis. The turbans worn by Titan basketball players Inderbir Gill and Sukhdeep 'Sunny' Khehra while playing in the Greater Spokane League are a dead giveaway. Gill, a starter and University's second-leading scorer, Khehra and Kulvir Singh, who come off the bench, are members of the Sikh religion.
