This March, a group of children and families are embarking on a multifaith adventure that is taking them to the places of worship of nine different faith communities in Surrey: Bahá’í, Buddhism, Christianity, First Nations, Hinduism, Islam, Mormon, Sikhism and Unitarianism. As part of the Surrey Neighbouring Faiths Program, each visit is designed to engage the children in fun, age-appropriate activities to introduce them to the people and practices of each faith community.

One visit may involve lighting incense at a Buddhist Temple, while another visit may introduce children to the evocative chants heard inside a Sikh Gurdwara.

“Our children will all end up going to school together,” says David Dalley, program co-ordinator for the program. “But as a community, we know very little about the faith traditions of our neighbours.
