Katherine Sepulveda is a sophomore philosophy major whose interests go beyond the usual writing, reading, and watching “Dancing With the Stars”. Right now her primary goal is to promote greater multi-faith awareness on campus.

As the appointed Multifaith Coordinator and new head of the Multifaith Alliance at Bryn Mawr, Sepulveda sees herself as a liaison between the Office of Intercultural Affairs (OIA) and students, both those who practice faith and those who do not.

A practicing Catholic, Sepulveda says she believes that it is important for good leaders to be free thinkers, and that a better understanding of diverse religious values will help us achieve a certain level of free thinking. Her interest in religious traditions does not just stem from her newly appointed position. “My friends would laugh about which religious organization I would visit next,” she said.

Reflecting on the incidents of intolerance that plagued last year’s Religion On Campus Week at Bryn Mawr, Sepulveda feels that it is important that people who do not practice a particular faith do not feel as if religion is being imposed on them. “[Many people] come to Bryn Mawr hoping to get away from religion,” she said in an email interview. She hopes to hold an information session before the next awareness week in April in order to avoid any misconceptions.

As the Multifaith Coordinator, Sepulveda insists that she will need significant support from all religious organizations on campus to make the Multifaith Alliance a success. With the stated purpose of MFA being to provide support to religious organizations, she insists that she can be considered a resource and a helping hand at all times.
