Senator Clinton Greets Sikhs as They Celebrate Founder's Birthday

On November 7, 2003 the Sikh Council on Religion and Education reported that "U. S. Senator from New York and the former First Lady Hillary Clinton has sent greetings to the Sikh community on the birth - anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. In her message she said, 'I am pleased to have this opportunity to send greetings to all who are celebrating the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.' Sikhs are celebrating the birth of the Founder on November 8, 2003 all across America. She further added, 'Community celebrations are an affirmation of community spirit. As you celebrate the 534th birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev JI, you celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Sikh American community. Your efforts remind us of the values, the lessons and the ideals that we want to bring forward into the present, so that we may use them to build our future. New York thrives on its diversity and the Sikh American community has made, and continues to make, positive contributions to the State's greatness and prosperity,' she said.
