On April 23, 2004 PR Newswire reported, "A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today issued a special security advisory to Muslims in America following a drive-by shooting last night at a Denton, Texas, mosque. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the shooting is just the latest in a series of incidents targeting American Muslims. A spokesman for the Islamic Society of Denton told CAIR that two shots were fired at the mosque Thursday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. One projectile penetrated a window and landed in the prayer area of the mosque. Another projectile damaged the mosque's main door. No one was injured in the attack. Local police are investigating the incident. Following the 9/11 terror attacks, the Denton mosque was damaged by two firebombs."
